MOVEMENT SERIES

It is common practice in architectural renderings to include entourage to demonstrate how a designed space will

be inhabited by its occupants. These are often static images of people as observers within a space. This project

explores the movement and paths of people interacting within our built environment. All of the images were set

at night to explore the pattern of movement along prescribed routes, designed for people through paths or

lighting. Like moths to a flame, people moved from one sphere of light to the next, not venturing too far out into

the darkness. As Jane Jacobs has written, eyes on the street is a powerful deterrent to bad behavior. As designers,

we have created this illusion of safety at night through providing the light by which to be seen.
